A new series of events will give West Midlands' business
managers and owners the opportunity to get up-to-speed with the
latest changes in employment law and access legal guidance on
managing the threats and opportunities for employers, both in the
current downturn and in preparation for the economic upturn.
Employment lawyers at law firm Challinors will run the firm's
new series of three 'Employment Law and the Recession'
seminars.
The series kicks-off on the 16th July with a session that
examines the issue of staffing in the recession, as Simon Bond,
head of employment at Challinors explains: "As law evolves and the
recessionary squeeze tightens its grip, the need for employers'
vigilance increases every day. However, the recession also holds
opportunities for employers to realign their staffing requirements
and introduce changes that employees might be more resistant to in
a more stable jobs market.
"Now is the time to introduce employment contracts and policies
for the benefit of the business and in time for the economic
upturn, and in this session, we will examine the threats and
opportunities the recession presents employers, as well as the dos
and don'ts of how to reduce staff costs."
The second event in the series on the 17th September, will look
at the real affects on the employer of changes in the law and the
greater diligence necessary for the employer which requires a
detailed understanding of the intricacies of employment law.
The final session is on the 15th October and will deal with
recruitment: "This highly useful session will cover how to ensure
recruitment adheres to all relevant legal restraints, such as equal
opportunities," explains Simon. "It will also investigate
interviewing measures and techniques, such as assessment techniques
and checklists, together with the technical requirements of offers
of employment, contracts of employment, staff induction, training
and the rights of the employee and business owner."
Each of the three events takes place at Challinors Birmingham
offices in Edmund Street. The seminars are priced at £30 each
per delegate or a discounted rate of £65 for all three
sessions in the series.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to sign-up to
Challinors Employer protection insurance scheme that provides
insurance cover of up to £100,000, tribunal claims handling
and representation and access to a dedicated employment law
helpline.
