A Northamptonshire motorsport company is encouraging others to
become big in Japan and attend a UK Trade & Investment export
event in Silverstone this week.
Japan is one of the world's top markets for motorsport and
offers a variety of business opportunities for UK companies.
It is the world's second largest market for motorsports with
13 authorised circuits and 130 circuit races, and is home to four
international-level racing series - Super GT, Formula Nippon,
Japanese Formula 3 and Super Taikyu. Japan also has a strong
second tier of racing, including regional clubman races, rallies,
dirt trials, kart races and historic events.
Viper Motorsport Wiring Systems Ltd is based in Wellingborough.
Director Dave Jobbins said,
"We attended a UKTI's meet the buyer event and the first person
we were introduced to turned out to be a priceless contact, as we
are now doing business. They are a Japanese company who we
manufacture electronics for vehicles used in Japanese motorsport,
including high level GT events. We hope we can expand in this
market."
Guest speaker will be Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer of Brawn
GP Formula 1 team, which recently celebrated victory in the Monaco
Grand Prix with driver Jenson Button.
International Trade Adviser Ian Thompson, who specialises in the
motorsport sector, said:
"The Japanese motorsport market is well established and
continues to offer lucrative returns for exporters. Many of the
major racing series teams in Japan use UK products & services
due to the concrete reputation that the British Motorsport Sector
carries. This high awareness for both heritage and innovation gives
UK businesses a head start when seeking export opportunities within
the Japanese motorsport industry.
"This week's seminar is an excellent opportunity for businesses
to get a view from the top from Nick Fry and obtain up to date
information about the current market and one to one advice about
doing business in Japan."
Other speakers include Philip McKenzie from the British Embassy
in Tokyo, and Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone
Circuits Ltd, who will talk about the exciting developments planned
for Silverstone.
The seminar takes place at Silverstone Innovation Centre,
Northamptonshire, this Thursday, 11 June from 9.30am to 3.30pm and
costs £30. To find out more or to register, call 0845
