A recreated Victorian fried fish dealer at the world-famous
Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge Gorge has served its very
first portion of fish and chips. The shop is part of a £10
million redevelopment scheme at the museum.
And the first customers were staff from Mansell's
Stourbridge-based Western region who built the shop, which is on
Canal Street in the Victorian town.
The work is being funded by Advantage West Midlands and the
European Regional Development Fund. Mansell is also developing
aspects of the living history museum, which will stay open
throughout the work.
The development includes a new 1000 square metre visitor centre
and the expansion of Canal Street, a recreation of a Victorian
street, with the addition of new shops and businesses. As well as a
fried fish dealer the street also includes a sweet shop, a
photographer's shop, a post office and a drapers store.
The project also includes an inclined lift and a new narrow
gauge railway incorporating an underground clay mine exhibit.
