Carillon Dental Care gives local community something to smile about

Local families in Loughborough, Leicestershire walked away with a smile on their faces last weekend after attending a special open day organised as part of National Smile Month celebrations.

Carillon Dental Care, which is based on Baxter Gate, hosted the event to help educate local children on the importance of dental care.

The National Smile Month campaign, run by the British Dental Foundation, has been highlighting the importance of dental hygiene for more than 38 years. This year's campaign focuses on the systematic links between oral health and overall body health.

The practice team were on hand at the Open Day to get across National Smile Month's key message to 'Look After Yourself, Brush for Health' by giving advice on all aspects of dental health - from nutrition and gum disease to cosmetic dentistry and tooth whitening.

Children had their eyes opened to the world of healthy teeth and gums by playing dental themed learning games, such as spot the difference and word searches. They also got the chance to check the levels of plaque in their own mouths by using plaque-disclosing tablets before learning how to brush properly from the professionals!

They also had the opportunity to get thinking about what they associated with healthy teeth and gums in a colouring competition.

Jara Begum, aged 4, Harvey Morris, aged 7 and Sabiha Yasmin, aged 10 won an electric toothbrush or selection of toys and stationery goodies for their imaginative pictures of healthy teeth and gums.

The adults were able to take a look around, meet the dentists face-to-face and get more information on the practice's range of services before taking advantage of some big savings on teeth whitening, one of its most popular cosmetic dental treatments.

Commenting on the Open Day, practice manager, Shraili Sakaria said: "We were delighted to get involved with National Smile Month and were pleased to welcome both our existing patients and some new faces as well.

"It is an excellent opportunity to get children thinking about how imporant it is to look after their teeth with some fun activities, as well as getting the message across to the parents as well," added Shirali.

Carillon Dental Care has been providing first class care since 1998. It offers a range of restorative and cosmetic services including NHS, private and advanced dental care in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. A comprehensive range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry services are also available including fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers, implants and tooth whitening.
