Bildurn Properties has signed a deal with supermarket giant
Tesco, to open a new Express store close to Midland Station, which
forms part of Southside in Nottingham.
The building on Station Street was a former police station; it
is set over a basement, ground and three upper stories. Tesco
are taking the ground and basement, an area of around 4,000 sq ft.
Planning permission has already been granted, final negotiations
are underway with Nottingham City Council regarding the exterior
shop fitting.
This will be Bildurn's second letting to Tesco, Britain's
biggest supermarket chain, within Nottingham, as they already have
a 5,000 sq ft unit in The Pod.
Juliette Bishop, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager, comments:
"This is excellent location for a Tesco Express in a busy area of
Nottingham. The purpose of any Tesco Express store is to serve the
immediate area around the store; the new Tesco Express in Station
Street is in area of the city where a large number of people work.
Aswell as serving workers, being opposite the rail station this
area of the city centre is busy throughout the day and into the
evening. Tesco Express will provide a quality convenience offer to
all these people in this small radius of the City."
Southside covers 38 hectares, including the railway station and
is crossed by the planned two new tram lines; it is also connected
to the regenerated Canal Quarter and is a few minutes from
Broadmarsh Shopping Centre.
Nottingham based Bildurn, who specialise in urban real estate
development and management across the East Midlands, is behind the
project. Bildurn recently completed award winning schemes in
Nottingham including The Pod, a 110,000 sq ft mixed-use retail,
commercial and hotel development which brought back to life an
vacant area within the city centre.
The Station Street site is ideally placed to benefit from the
£67m plan to transform Nottingham's Midland railway station
into a world class transport interchange. The improvement scheme is
envisaged with major improvements to facilities and greater
passenger capacity. One of the most exciting elements is the
extension of Line One of the Nottingham Express Transit over the
top of Station Street into the rail station itself.
Sean Akins, Director at Bildurn commented: "Though the economic
climate is tough the world still turns: Tesco continue to drive an
ambitious expansion, and we are delighted to work with them again
and harness the regenerative effects that it will have in this part
of Nottingham's Southside."
Tesco is expected to start on the scheme shortly and should be
ready to open by August.
Bildurn recently started work on an exciting regeneration
project within Leicester's Cultural Quarter, designed as a home to
the city's growing creative businesses within Leicester.
