Nottingham city centre has received a massive boost with the
news that HMV, one of the world's most well-known and respected
music and DVD retail brands, has taken a long term lease on the
former store of stricken music chain, Zavvi.
Acting on behalf of the landlord, Pearl Group Ltd, national
commercial property consultancy, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has
agreed a new 10-year lease at 6-10 Wheeler Gate in Nottingham city
centre.
The property became available in December 2008 after the
economic downturn led to a slump in sales and Zavvi was eventually
forced into administration.
The 25,000 sq ft store is HMV's third location in Nottingham
city centre and is one of several other former Zavvi units acquired
across the UK.
Jamie Mount at Pearl Group also welcomed HMV's arrival, he
added: "This is not only a fantastic result for the landlord but
also for Nottingham City Centre at a time of turbulence in the UK
retail sector.
"We are also delighted at LSH's success in agreeing terms with
HMV so swiftly after Zavvi's departure."
Roger Smalley, Associate Director in LSH's Nottingham office,
said: "HMV's acquisition of this store represents a landmark
letting for Wheeler Gate and is a clear indicator of the robust
nature of Nottingham's retail market.
"The successful letting of this store will also act as a
stimulus for Wheeler Gate as well as safeguarding jobs for the
former Zavvi employees."
LSH are retained by the landlord on the agency and professional
work for the nine-storey offices above the retail units.
