Learning and Skills Council representatives joined the
celebrations as members of the Warwickshire Garage & Transport
Group Training Association marked 40 years of success in delivering
training for apprentices.
Formed in 1969, the Association remains highly active in the
business community, with 75 members throughout Coventry, Leamington
Spa, Stratford and Rugby.
Addressing the lunch gathering, training director Gail Southam
said: "A constant supply of well-trained apprentices is essential
if we are to weather this global recession. We need to carry on
doing what we've done over the last forty years - providing quality
training that equips young people with the skills that will enable
them to contribute to their own success as individuals and to the
success of the businesses they work in."
Guest of honour at the event was the Mayor of Royal Leamington
Spa, Coun Mr Kailash Chander who gave a keynote addressing
emphasising the lifelong benefits of learning.
WGTA has trained more than 1,500 apprentices in mechanics, body
repair and parts organisation and management, many of whom have
gone on to hold senior positions in the industry or build their own
businesses.
Addressing guests at the event, Coventry and Warwickshire LSC
partnership director Yvonne Rose said the Association's successful
partnership work with employers provides the foundation for its
continuing success and urged employers to continue investing in
apprentices during the economic downturn.
