Derbyshire based Primopost Limited has been given a Grant for
Business Investment (GBI) from East Midlands Development Agency
(emda) to help develop its business.
Primopost manufactures and supplies plain and printed films and
wraps used in flexible food packaging. The company, which has been
trading for over 20 years, currently employs 72 staff from its
premises in Buxton.
The £90,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI) provided
by emda will help the company undertake a significant investment to
extend the current premises and purchase specialist machinery. The
grant will also assist in the creation of eight new full time jobs
within the next two years.
Primopost have undertaken extensive research and development
into providing an alternative to chemically coated film used in
some biscuit wrappers. The GBI grant will assist the company to
purchase a specialist combi-lamination coating machine that will be
further developed to produce the wrapping, introducing a new
process into the UK packaging market.
Andrew Foster, Managing Director of Primopost said: "We
continually strive to offer our base of blue chip clients' cost
effective solutions to their food packaging needs. In the
current economic climate, the GBI grant is hugely important to us
both in terms of this investment and enabling us to move forward as
a growing, productive business."
GBI is a capital investment grant scheme aimed at encouraging
businesses to invest in land and buildings, plant and machinery to
support expansion, modernisation and diversification.
John O'Reilly, emda's Business Support Director, said "I am
delighted that we have been able to support Primopost with their
investment through the GBI scheme as they look to maximise their
future growth potential and create new job opportunities within our
region.
"I would like to encourage other small and medium sized
companies across the East Midlands that are considering capital
investment projects that may be eligible for GBI support to get in
touch."emda is particularly looking for applications that
demonstrate how companies will improve business productivity and
skills levels; develop new products or processes; maximise
potential opportunities in niche, fast growing or export markets;
or meet the priority sectors and technologies sent out in emda's
Regional Economic Strategy.
The criteria of the GBI scheme are straightforward and relate to
location, need, the size and type of the business, the nature and
size of the investment, viability and the quality of the
project.
